What to expect from you first visit

Miss Claire Mellon & Associates offer a high-quality approach to your gynaecological and antenatal care. We provide the perfect balance between professional and personal, ensuring each of our patients are tended to with both efficiency and empathy. 

Gynaecology

If you choose to connect with Miss Claire Mellon & Associates for gynacological reasons, your care will begin with a gentle consultation where you will meet with one of our female consultant gynaecologists and they will guide you through the following - in accordance to our COVID measures:

  • A thorough history and pelvic examination

  • A written medical report which can be posted or emailed to yourself and health professional(s) of your choice

  • A prescription arrangement

  • Then if required you will be offered the following:

    • Cervical smear and HPV sub-typing test if 25 years or older

    • Ultrasound scan, often performed transvaginally

    • Contraception and sexual health review

    • Referral for further tests such as blood tests

    • Notification of the results of any test

There are many reasons why people usually come to see a gynaecologist for the first time:

  • Early, late or irregular periods

  • Painful or heavy periods

  • Sexual health screening and / or contraception

  • First cervical smear (screening starts from 25 years old)

All are very common and nothing our compassionate female consultants haven't seen many times before. We understand that visiting a gynaecologist for the first time can be a daunting and sometimes embarrassing prospect for some; therefore we always operate with sensitivity and kindness first.  

Obstetrics

If you choose Miss Mellon to guide you through your pregnancy and/or to deliver your baby, your care can begin at 12 weeks although our early pregnancy specialists are able to offer you a reassurance scan at 6-7 weeks for peace of mind.

Miss Mellon believes in building solid relationships with all of her patients and so consultations are tailored around each patients unique concerns. 

At your first appointment one of our female gynaecologists will assist you through the following:

  • Measurement of your height, weight and blood pressure

  • Urine test for signs of infection or protein
  • Pelvic examination

  • Transvaginal ultrasound scan

  • Discussion about your medical history

  • Advice if required​

  • Notification of results

  • Written medical report which can be posted or emailed to yourself and health professional(s) of your choice

  • Prescription arrangement if required

  • Follow up advise if required

If you wish to continue your antenatal care with Miss Claire Mellon, we will discuss fees and organise blood tests and refer you to Ultrasound Diagnostic Services for the NIPT (non-invasive pre-natal test) and a more detailed scan.

The Wellness Space

Your wellness journey will begin with a short 10-15 minute consultation with Anabel Cutler to establish your needs and expectations for the treatment. She will ask you some basic medical questions to assess your state of health and create a bespoke treatment plan for the most positive results. 

 

  • Once your consultation is over you will be asked to lie down on a bed or chair. 

  • There is no need to take clothing off though you will be asked to remove shoes and socks.

  • You will be asked to switch off your mobile. 

  • You will be made comfortable, using extra cushions if needed

  • The bed is heated and we also have a supply of blankets for warmth, should you feel cold during the treatment.

  • We have a music playlist, though you can also request silence. Please feel free to sleep or whatever feels comfortable for you.

  • At the end of the treatment you will be offered a glass of water and a brief assessment of treatment
