What are vulval conditions?

Common symptoms of vulval conditions include pain, itching or burning. Some women may notice skin changes or lumps in the vulval area. These symptoms may be in the context of other skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, lichen scleorosus) or conditions related specifically to the vulva (vulvodynia, vaginismus).

What to expect at your appointment:

• Consultation with one of our female consultant gynaecologists

• Full medical history to assess for risk factors

• Examination of the vulva

• Discussion regarding conservative management plans, including vulval skin care

• Written medical report which can be posted or emailed to yourself and health professional(s) of your choice

• Prescription arrangement

• Onward referral to a further specialist, for example a dermatologist or oncologist, if required
